Prompt Petal

Help

On a Mac, the button is not doing anything

Almost always Accessibility permission. Open System Settings, Privacy and Security, Accessibility, and switch Prompt Petal on. Until it is on, the menu bar menu starts with Allow Prompt Petal to Type for You.

Is there a keyboard shortcut on the Mac?

Option and Space opens the ring wherever your pointer is. While it is open, the arrow keys move between prompts, Return picks one, the number keys 1 to 5 pick directly, and Escape closes it.

The text went somewhere else

Click into the text box first so the cursor is actually in it, then click the button. Prompt Petal types where your cursor was.

I cannot find the button

It stays wherever you last dragged it, including the far corners. Press Option and Space to open the ring at your pointer, or open Settings from the menu bar icon and check that As a button on screen is ticked.

On Windows, where is the ring?

Click into a text box, then click the flower by your clock, or Open Petals in the Prompt Petal window. Pick a prompt and it is typed where your cursor was.

On iPhone or Android, how do I use it?

Prompt Petal is a keyboard there. Open the app and follow Turning the keyboard on, then switch to the Prompt Petal keyboard in any app and tap a prompt.

Can I change what the prompts say?

That is Pro. Free comes with five ready-made prompts you can arrange and hide. Pro lets you write your own, keep several inside one petal, and use prompts that live in a Word, RTF or Markdown file.

Can I see what I copied?

Yes. In Settings, the Clipboard tab keeps the last 5 to 100 things you copy, if you switch it on. Copy one again or remove it from there, or pick one from the ring, which shows the newest 10. It is kept in memory only and forgotten when you quit.

Can the text be bigger, or dark?

Yes, on Mac and Windows. Text Size and Appearance are in the menu bar or tray menu, and in Settings under Display.

Can I lock Prompt Petal?

With Pro. Turn on Require Touch ID to Unlock on a Mac, or Require Windows Hello to Unlock on a PC, and choose what it guards. A Mac without Touch ID uses your password. On a phone it uses your fingerprint, face or passcode. On a Mac you can also lock the button in place so it cannot be dragged.

How do I get my prompts on another device?

Sign in with the same email on each device. On your first device you choose how the others unlock: a passcode of 4 to 6 digits, typed once on each new device, or QR codes scanned from a device that is already set up. Each device then stays unlocked on its own.

How do I change or cancel Pro?

Open Settings, then Your account, then Manage subscription. If you bought through the App Store or Google Play, it opens their page for you.
