Read a prompt before it goes in
A petal shows a short name, and the prompt behind it can be long. Once you have a few dozen prompts, the name alone sometimes leaves you unsure which wording you are about to insert. Prompt Petal 1.3 lets you read the whole prompt first.
Show the whole prompt before inserting
On Mac, Windows and Linux there is a setting called Show the whole prompt before inserting. Turn it on in Settings or from the menu bar or tray menu, where it reads Peek Before Inserting. After that, a click on a petal grows the petal large and shows the full prompt, with an Insert button and a Copy button.
- Open Settings and switch on Show the whole prompt before inserting.
- Click your flower button and click a petal.
- Read the prompt in the large petal.
- Click Insert to put the prompt into your text field, or Copy to keep it on the clipboard.
- Press Escape or click outside the large petal to go back to the flower.
On iPhone and Android
The keyboards on iPhone and Android use a long press. Press and hold a petal and the whole prompt opens for you to read. A normal tap still inserts the prompt straight away, so quick use stays quick.
Keep the flower open after inserting
Some jobs need two or three prompts in a row, such as a summary and then a translation. The setting Keep the flower open after inserting leaves your petals on screen after each insert, so you can pick the next one without opening the flower again.
Recently used
Prompt Petal remembers the last five petals you used. On Mac, Windows and Linux they sit in the menu bar or tray menu. In the iPhone and Android keyboards they appear as a Recent strip above your petals. The prompt you used ten minutes ago is one tap away.
Who gets what
The peek, keep open and Recently used features work in Free. Free holds five prompts you write and edit, and Pro holds as many as you like. With a large Pro library, reading a prompt before it goes in becomes more useful.
A short example
Say you keep three prompts that all begin with Rewrite. The petal names are Rewrite short, Rewrite warm and Rewrite formal. With the whole prompt in front of you, you can confirm which one asks for a friendly tone and which one asks for a formal one. A second of reading saves an insert you would have to undo.
The same view helps when you share prompts with a teammate. Open the petal, read the text, and copy it with the Copy button to send along.
Set up your favorite combination
Many people turn on all three settings. Show the whole prompt keeps surprises away, Keep the flower open handles a run of prompts, and Recently used brings back the favorites from the last few minutes. Together they make a petal flower feel like a small control panel for your AI apps.
What reading first saves
Reading first costs one click and a moment. Inserting the wrong long prompt costs an undo, a fresh selection and another try.
