How to save and reuse prompts in ChatGPT
ChatGPT lets you set custom instructions that apply to every chat, and projects that keep files and instructions together. What it does not have is a list of your own saved prompts that you can drop into the message you are writing. So most people keep them in a notes app and copy and paste.
Three ways people do it today
- Custom instructions. Good for how you always want answers written. Less good for a specific task, like "review this contract clause by clause", that you only want sometimes.
- A note of prompts. Works everywhere, but every use means finding the note, copying, switching back and pasting.
- Retyping from memory. Fast, and it slowly drops the details that made the prompt good.
One click instead
- Install Prompt Petal on your Mac, Windows PC, iPhone, iPad or Android phone.
- Write your prompts, or import the note you already have.
- In ChatGPT, select the text you want worked on, click the flower and pick a petal. The whole prompt lands in the message box with your text folded in.
Because the full prompt goes in each time, long chats stay on track as the context window fills, and the same prompts work in Claude, Gemini, Copilot and any other AI you use.
